The Farm

  • A bounty poster would lead the player to an abandoned farm
     

  • ​Focuses on investigation and environmental storytelling
     

  • The player has to follow tracks and look for hints to find where the bounty went next using "Eagle Eye"

  • Eagle Eye would reveal hints and tracks for the player to interact with
     

  • The hints and tracks revealed would lead the player pass the debris, through the broken fence to reach the camp

Initially when I first sketched out this area of the map the player was going straight through the farm

This caused a few issues : 

  • ​The player could ignore the hint altogether
     

  • There's was no challenge
     

  • The gameplay space was not maximized 

A few things I changed : 

  • Added carts and boxes in the main way to change the player's path
     

  • Put the hint and tracks inside the stable area to increase gameplay space

  • Placed logs, debris and structures in the stable area to :
    ​

    • Block the exit's view when the player enters the area​
       

    • Encourage the player to go towards the hint
       

    • Reinforce the fact that this area has been abandoned for a while
